Redundancy

Redundancy

Redundancy provides extra capacity, components or paths so that the failure of a single element does not cause a service outage. It can exist at many layers: power, network, storage, compute and application. The consensus is that redundancy is a core reliability principle, but must be intelligently designed to avoid common-mode failures and must be combined with good operational practices and testing.
