Archiving
Archiving is the long-term preservation of data that is no longer actively used but must be retained for legal, regulatory or business reasons. Archived data typically resides on lower-cost, high-durability storage. The consensus is that archival strategies must consider retrieval times, e-discovery, retention schedules and defensible deletion, rather than treating archives as a bottomless dumping ground.
